Members of the U.S. Coast Guard intercepted two go-fast boats that were carrying nearly 4,000 pounds of cocaine and almost 1,000 pounds of marijuana.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Dallas intercepted the boats while patrolling the Caribbean Sea.

The first boat was spotted north of Hobbies Cays, Honduras on December 2.  Crewmembers said they spotted people onboard throwing multiple bales into the water.

Those crewmembers then retrieved 77 individually wrapped packages that turned out to be cocaine.  The drugs weighed about 4,000 pounds and have an estimated street value of $48 million.

Four people on board were taken to the naval station in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

On December 31, Dallas crewmembers located another boat southwest of Jamaica.  Again they witnessed people on board throwing bales into the water.  Sixteen packages were found to contain marijuana with an estimated street value of $852,000.

Three people on board were arrested.

The drugs from both cases were offloaded at the Coast Guard Sector in Key West.
